FAQ

Can anyone apply KC14?
You do not need any experience to apply KC14 yourself. The products are user-friendly, promoting a do-it-yourself culture. A detailed user guide is enclosed when purchasing products, which we recommend you read before you start the process. You can find the user guide here. Our instruction videos are very helpful as well and can be found here.
How many finished m2 does KC14 give?
One ‘Set’ consists of 10L KC14 + 1L Topcoat. KC14 covers 5-7 finished square meters, including 2 layers of filler and 2 layers of topcoat.
How long does it take to finish one wall with KC14?
Due to the product's drying times, one layer of plaster can be applied daily. Therefore, we recommend you estimate 3 days for your wall project. The time it takes to apply the layers depends on your experience and technique, as well as the number of square meters you need to cover.
Can KC14 be refitted and mended?
Trying to repair KC14 on already finished areas will always be visible to some extent. Therefore, we recommend you avoid reconstructing specific areas. If it cannot be avoided, and you need to do some damage control, the area should be delimited with tape, plastered, and sanded before the Topcoat is applied.
Tip: If you have leftover KC14, store it in a plastic bag to keep oxygen from entering. Make sure that storage conditions are cool but never below 0 degrees Celsius. That way you have some extra for future repairs, if needed.
How can KC14 be maintained?
KC14 is fully hardened after 2-3 weeks, however, the wall will never become completely hard and is, therefore, susceptible to scratches. With two coats of Topcoat KC14 has a dust-repellent surface, equivalent to paint with shine 10. This means the wall is washable, but not resistant to grease and stains.
If stronger protection is needed, our Strongcoat matt is a good addition, once the required 2 layers of Topcoat have been applied, as it does not compromise the original aesthetics. KC14 can be maintained with Topcoat, by mixing 70 % water and 30% Topcoat and can be cleaned with mild cleaning detergents.
Is KC14 eco-labelled?
KC14 has the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, the official Nordic Ecolabel, ensuring sustainable procurement and high quality for your surfaces. Apart from being an ecolabel, criteria for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel also include quality requirements, ensuring a sustainable product, while the quality and durability of the product live up to high standards. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is one of the toughest and most recognized environmental certifications and builds upon an assessment of the entire life cycle of a product, from the use of raw materials to production, packaging, and recycling.
What is the difference between KC14 and KABRIC?
KC14 is a coloured filler while KABRIC is a decorative texture paint. Both products are decor products for walls, but the preparation work, the application process and the finishing result are different from each other. We, therefore, recommend that you learn about the different structures and application techniques the three different products have, before purchasing. KABRIC is also suited for other surfaces, such as furniture.
Surfaces
Where can KC14-products be applied?
KC14 is developed for interior walls, not in direct contact with water. We do not recommend the use of KC14-products behind a stove due to the risk of stains.
The surface on which KC14-products are to be applied must be smooth, dry, equally absorbent, and sustainable. KC14 can be applied directly onto plaster, felt and even wall-painted surfaces. If in doubt, you should prime the base before beginning.
KC14 can be applied directly on glass fabric, but a more affordable solution would be to even out the surface first, with a regular wall filler. We advise that wallpaper is removed. However, if you are 100% sure that your wallpaper is thoroughly attached to your wall, you can apply KC14.
You can find our video on the application on ingrain wallpaper here.
Can KC14 be applied in basements?
Due to the risk of humidity, we do not recommend the use of DETALE products in basements. Our products are not adequately vapour-permeable, for this purpose.
Can a KC14-wall be painted over?
Yes! If you wish to renew the look of your wall, you can easily change an existing KC14-wall. Whether you would like to i.e., paint or apply felt, you only have to sand the wall with coarse sandpaper and apply a suitable primer before you start your renovation.
