How to paint a wall

A fresh coat of paint can transform any space, bringing new life and personality to your home. Follow these steps for a smooth, flawless finish.
You will need
Paint
Paintbrush and roller
Soap (to clean the wall)
Paint tray
Masking tape
Before painting
Prepare your space for the best results. Move furniture aside and cover floors to protect from stains. Remove any wall decor and vacuum both floors and ceilings to minimize dust.
Apply masking tape carefully along edges, pressing firmly to ensure clean lines.
Fill any holes with filler and sand them smooth once dry. Wipe the wall with a damp cloth to remove dust. For larger areas, walls, ceilings or porous surfaces, consider applying a primer for an even result.

Painting
Start applying the paint around edges and corners with a paint brush. Then, evenly load your roller with paint and apply it in broad, overlapping strokes, moving in a “W” or “M” pattern for full coverage. Let the first coat dry for at least 4 hours before applying a second.
After painting
Carefully remove masking tape and coverings while the paint is still slightly wet, for the sharpest lines. Allow the wall to dry completely (24 hours is ideal), before rearranging furniture or hanging anything back up on the walls.
