DIY coffee table
KABRIC can be used for all sorts of creative projects and in this post, we will walk you through how you can create your own stylish coffee table, with few materials and a lot of fun. For this DIY-project chipboard was cut out to suit the measurements, perfect for the space it was created for. If you have the tools needed you can cut it yourself, but an alternative is to order a circular board in your preferred measurements online. The base has been created by using four pieces of chipboard attached to a board for stability. An alternative is to choose more traditional table legs and just cover the tabletop with KABRIC.
The first thing to do is to prepare the board, so it is ready for the application of KABRIC. This was done by simply sanding it, before giving it a wood primer. Then it is ready for you to move on to the fun part. What’s great about creating your furniture with KABRIC is that you can create as little or much life, as you would like for it to have, continuously adding your own personal touch to the finish. If you’re not feeling the way it turns out at first, you can just keep playing around with your favorite shade of KABRIC, until the look is just the way you like it.
If getting the sides or your angles just right seems a bit difficult, wearing a rubber glove, you can use a finger to apply and cover any tricky areas, as it was done when covering this table. We suggest making the tricky areas before the final layer on top, so you don’t need to focus on these when you’re ready for the most important part, the aesthetics.
When you are happy with the look, you leave it for a couple of hours while drying. When it is fully dried you can start sanding, so it becomes smooth as silk before applying the varnish. In this case, we have chosen a varnish instead of DETALE Topcoat, as the Topcoat absorbs into the surface whereas a varnish covers the surface as a membrane which is ideal on a horizontal surface exposed to wear and tear. We have chosen a matte varnish to keep the natural look, but if you want a shiny look you can easily choose another level of gloss.
