How to paint skirting boards

Skirting boards frame your space, shaping the overall look—whether they are white or blending with your favourite DETALE colour. Follow these steps for a seamless finish with DETALE Wood Paint.

You will need

  • Paintbrush

  • Sandpaper (120-180 grit)

  • Paint

  • Masking tape

  • Interior wood primer

Preparation

Start by sanding the skirting boards with soft sandpaper to create a smooth surface. Apply an interior wood primer to ensure even coverage and lasting durability.

Next, dust off and wipe the boards thoroughly with a damp cloth. Once dry, carefully apply masking tape along the edges to protect walls and floors.

Painting

Use long, even strokes, starting at the sides and working your way across. For wider boards, a small roller alongside your brush ensures smooth, consistent coverage. Apply thin, even layers, allowing each coat to dry fully before adding the next.  Once the final coat is dry, gently peel away the masking tape to reveal sharp and clean edges.

And just like that — perfectly painted skirting boards that frame your space.
